Egypt’s Environment Ministry Launches Awareness Caravan in Suez Schools Ahead of COP24
Following the instructions of Dr. Manal Awad—Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment—to strengthen environmental awareness across Egypt ahead of hosting the Barcelona COP24 Conference, the Ministry of Environment has launched a wide set of community-focused activities in Suez schools and educational institutes.
The Ministry organized an environmental caravan in Suez as part of preparations for Egypt’s hosting of the Barcelona Convention Conference in 2025. The initiative was carried out by the Central Administration for Environmental Awareness and Media (Youth Unit), in cooperation with the Environmental Affairs Agency in Suez, the Productivity and Efficiency Authority, and the Education Directorate.
Dr. Awad emphasized that raising public awareness is a key element of Egypt’s readiness for COP24—not just the logistics of hosting the conference, but building a culture that supports the country’s environmental commitments. She highlighted that these activities help involve different groups across society in protecting natural resources and supporting national and regional environmental goals.
The caravan featured three awareness sessions covering environmental protection, sustainable development, the importance of preserving Egypt’s coastlines, and the role of young people in tackling environmental challenges.
It also included a hands-on workshop on waste recycling to encourage environmentally responsible behavior and to spark innovation among youth. The activities concluded with a beach clean-up at the Port Tawfiq Chalets, where students and volunteers participated and created short awareness videos to promote coastal protection on social media.
These efforts are part of the Ministry’s broader plan to strengthen environmental awareness, empower youth, and support Egypt’s vision for sustainable development and long-term conservation of natural resources.
