About COP24
The 24th Meeting of the Contracting Parties (COP24) to the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols brings together Mediterranean countries, the European Union, regional organizations, and key stakeholders to advance collective action for the protection of the Mediterranean Sea and its coastal environment.
To be held in Cairo, 2- 5 December 2025, under the theme: “Mediterranean Blue Growth: Towards a Resilient and Sustainable Future” and in the framework of the UNEP/Mediterranean Action Plan (UNEP/MAP), COP24 aims to:
- Review progress in implementing the Barcelona Convention and the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development
- Adopt decisions to strengthen environmental governance and regional cooperation
- Accelerate actions to address marine pollution, biodiversity loss, climate change impacts, and sustainable blue economy
- Support countries in implementing national measures and meeting regional obligations
COP24 provides a high-level platform for governments, experts, and partners to shape the future of Mediterranean environmental policy, promote innovative solutions, and enhance resilience of ecosystems and communities across the region.
Together, the Contracting Parties reaffirm their shared commitment to ensuring a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Mediterranean for current and future generations.
