Egypt is making strenuous efforts to protect the Mediterranean Sea environment through a set of integrated policies and initiatives aimed at:

• Conserving marine biodiversity.
• Reducing sources of pollution.
• Supporting the sustainable use of marine resources.

These efforts are consistent with Egypt’s commitments under the Barcelona Convention for the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea Against Pollution. This commitment was culminated by Egypt hosting the Twenty-Fourth Conference of the Parties (COP24) , confirming its leading role in driving regional action for a cleaner and more sustainable Mediterranean Sea.

The Mediterranean Sea is considered one of the most important natural habitats for sea turtles , providing a rich environment that supports their diversity and continuity.
The Eshtoum El Gamil Sea Turtle Rescue Center plays a pioneering role in protecting these creatures by:

• Rehabilitating injured turtles that are accidentally caught in fishermen’s nets.
• Treating them and returning them to their natural habitat in the sea.
